Assam Book Fair to Tour 8 Cities Oct 2025–Jan 2026

The Assam Book Fair will be held in 8 cities from Oct 2025 to Jan 2026, bringing books, authors, and literary events to readers statewide.

This year's Assam Book Fair will be organized in eight cities of the state from October 2025 to January 2026.

The announcement was made at a press meet at the office of the Assam Publication Council on Tuesday, presided over by Council Secretary Pramod Kalita and members of the All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association.

In Guwahati, the fair will again be organized at the playground of the Veterinary College in Khanapara.

The length of the fair in Guwahati will be increased to 14 days from the normal 12 in 2024, giving book enthusiasts more chances to visit.

Organisers also reiterated their resolve to ensure that special funds for buying books, released by the government for employee purchase and under the Year of Books scheme, are spent effectively to promote book purchasing at the fairs.

Speaking during the event, Kalita stated the regional expansion is part of an overarching mission to foster a reading culture in Assam.

"By taking the book fair to several cities, the event will touch various audiences and create a stronger love for literature," he explained.

With both well-known and upcoming writers, literary forums, and a broad range of titles, the Assam Book Fair is likely to attract thousands of customers during this season.

The cabinet approved financial help for book fairs being held by the Assam Prakashan Parishad on August 8 – Rs 5 lakh for district headquarters and Rs 2.5 lakh for co-district headquarters.

At a press conference on January 1, the Chief Minister had announced 2025 the "Year of Books" and said that henceforth the Assam Book Fair will be co-organised by the All Assam Publishers and Booksellers Association and the Assam Publication Board at the Khanapara Veterinary College Field.

Besides the principal book fair in Guwahati, seven regional editions will be held, taking the literary festival to readers in other parts of Assam.

The events will be held as follows:

Bongaigaon: October 22 – October 29, 2025

Lakhipur: November 1 – November 10, 2025

Nalbari: November 6 – November 17, 2025

Jorhat: November 14 – November 26, 2025

Tinsukia: November 28 – December 7, 2025

Silchar: December 1 – 10, 2025

Mangaldai: December 12 – 18, 2025

Guwahati: December 24, 2025 – January 6, 2026
